Language House

Windom House

Windom is the Spanish and Portuguese Language immersion house. Windom serves as a residence for 20 students interested in improving their understanding of Spanish and Portuguese language and culture. The house has a TV lounge, piano, and full kitchen. Events are organized by the Cultural Program Coordinators in liaison with the Spanish & Portuguese Department.

The language Cultural Program Coordinators (CPC) are staff members who teach adjunct language courses and who strive to create a sense of community within the house and provide opportunities for the students living in the house to be immersed in the language and culture. The Spanish language CPC also lives in Windom House. The CPCs plan cultural as well as community-building programs.

Ana Gaby Pareja-Alfaro

Pura Vida! I'm AnaGaby from Costa Rica. Before we meet, let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I'm an extroverted, positive, and creative person who is 99.9% of the time dancing and with a big smile to share with the world. I am a languages professor graduated from the University of Costa Rica in English Philology with a minor in Translation. From 2017 to 2019, I worked at Ó£ÌÒɬ¸£Àû¼§ as a Spanish Professor and Cultural Program Coordinator, generating a connection between American students, and students from all over the world, with the Hispanic language and culture. Believe me when I say I'm a CC Tiger who enjoys sharing my culture and knowledge while also learning from whoever crosses my path. Can't wait to meet all of you... Let's enjoy the journey while we make great memories together!

Thamis Silveira

Thamis Silveira is Brazilian, originally from Porto Alegre, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Portuguese Language and Literatures in Portuguese, as well as a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics, both from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Since 2014, her academic and professional path has been dedicated to the teaching and research of Portuguese as an Additional Language. Her interest in languages and cultures, and in understanding how interpersonal relationships unfold across different settings, has led her to teach Portuguese in a variety of contexts, including at her home institution (UFRGS), in its Portuguese for Foreigners program, at the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre (UFCSPA), and at Sophia University in Tokyo, where she lived for four years. These experiences, along with the linguistic and cultural exchanges she has encountered, continue to inspire her to grow as an educator. Beyond the classroom, she enjoys literature, cinema, music, art exhibitions, and traveling.
